Flora and Fauna

Fauna
Birds

Many birds live and nest in the area, some are common, others are more rare. You may observe a couple of Royal Eagles which often glide over the ridge of the 'Grenairon', or the bearded Gypaete with its large white spotted wings flying over its prey.

In more recent years, the common kestrel has been sighted in its stationary flight position while watching its prey.

Small and large game

You can often spot chamois and ibex which protected species in the surrounding cliffs. The evenings, when the air cools, is the best time to observe them as they leave the shade of trees and bushes. Do not hesitate to ask the keeper of the refuge if you need help to find them, he will gladly guide your gaze.

Tracks and diggings of wild boars have been obvious in the last few years but these animals are seldom seen during the day. They plough the meadow, looking for roots on which they feed and have an influence on the growth of pasture grass and flowers. In the autumn, the hunting season is open.
